did you tried running tsm obliterate script with admin privileges?
Important: You must run the
tableau-server-obliteratescript from a 64-bit command prompt. For example, run
C:\Windows\System32folder. If you run the script from a 32-bit command prompt, the script will not completely remove Tableau, and subsequent installations may fail. To determine if you are running a 64-bit command prompt, type
echo %processor_architecture%in your command window. If the result includes "64" (
AMD64for example), the command prompt is a 64-bit prompt. If the result includes "x86" you are running a 32-bit prompt. For more information, see the appropriate Microsoft documentation for your versions of Windows.
instead of directly running the file , from cmd go the tsm obliterate and then run the script
coming to the installation raise a support ticket they will be able to resolve the issue
Hope this helps
Thanks for your response.
I am running it on 64 bit- I got an output of AMD64 in command window.
I was running tableau-server-obliterate as an administrator- it reads C:\Windows\system32.
Can you please elaborate what steps I should follow for this-"instead of directly running the file , from cmd go the tsm obliterate and then run the script"
Make sure you start the command app as an administrator. Run tableau-server-obliterate.cmd -l -y -y -y and hit return. It should kick off. You need to run the command from the directory where you have the obliterate script file.
Check the Windows Path settings and remove anything related to tableau as that can trigger the installer to think Tableau Server is already installed. Delete the Tableau directories and I always delete the Flexnet directories and then reboot. You should be able to install again.
Hello Heyward Drummond,
Even though there is the folder with Packages there is no obliterate script.
I checked under programs- uninstall or remove and couldnt find tableau server.
Can you tell me how can i check the "Tableau directories and I always delete the Flexnet directories"
Thanks for your help!
Look in c:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau Server\packages\scripts.xxxxxxxx\ to find the obliterate script. I always always always copy this to my documents folder so I have a copy...ALWAYS!!!
1. delete the C:\Program Files\tableau directory and all folder below that
2. Make sure your Windows settings for file views allows showing hidden files
3. Look for a hidden folder called ProgramData
4. Look there for the Tableau directory and delete it assuming you have a good working backup file somewhere as this deletes all content
5. Delete the FLEXnet folder and the FNP folder which are in that ProgramData folder
6. Go into Windows settings and search for PATH - you should edit the path statements to make sure any with Tableau in them are deleted
Try to install again...it should work this time.
This KB article has a download link for the obliterate script if it was removed by an uninstall, etc.:
Be sure to follow the instructions on that page once downloaded.
