    Spatial data from Redshift Database

Amazon has recently added a Geometry data type to Redshift. I'm working with a simple "Hello World" Redshift dataset example that has a simple POINT geometric object called Location.

Is there a way to have the Geometry field from Amazon Redshift (Location in this example) be read as a Spatial column?

As shown below the data looks to be stored as the Well Known Binary format. As part of a Custom SQL statement, the data can be brought in as WKB and WKT format, but those forms are also interpreted as strings.  List of Redshift Spatial Functions.

Interesting to note that Spotfire seems to have a way to interpret WKB as a geometry data type.
