Are you using a floating container? Apparently this functionality only works with floating containers.
Yes the container is floating and works great in Tableau Desktop. When I publish the dashboard the show/hide button shows up, but has no functionality. I was thinking maybe the show/hide button is not available in tableau server?
Couple of things on the server side. One, is it also version 2019.2? If not, it won't work. Secondly, do you have the right permissions to adjust filters and parameters on Tableau Server? That could cause the functionality not to work too.
I have the most recent desktop version (2019.2.2) I think it is. My server is a 2018 version, so I'm guessing you are right about that. I have all of the permissions, but my guess is the show/hide button was not part of the server version.
Yea you need your sever version to match your desktop version in order for newer functionality to work. If your server is a 2018 version you can't use any functionality on Server past that version.
It sounds like you found your solution with the mismatched Desktop and Server versions. I found this thread with a similar issue, but I'm working on 2019.2 for both Desktop and Server. In Desktop the show/hide buttons were working perfectly, but in Server, while the button was there, the "show" functionality was not working--the box would expand but be empty.
I wanted to share the fix I found in hopes of helping someone else. In my case I had just a text box in my horizontal floating container. In order to get the text to appear, I had to top justify the text. If I left it at the default vertically-centered justification it would not work. Odd, but I thought I'd post this in hopes it can save someone the hour of frustration I just went through.
