Here is an additional way to do this - it is more of a hack but has been useful to me in several cases (works for numeric and for alpha or combined fields)
I converted the score 1 and score 2 to a string field and then and made them all the sale length
then ranked that filed

After a bit of tweaking that solution worked for me. I just had to change the right string trim length, and put in a left string trim for the second half of my combined rank (it was a long decimal number). My final rank calc needed to drop the ATTR, but once all that was done, its given me a functional new rank that will keep everyone happy.
For everyone else, this was the intended output (on the left, rather than default on the right), sorry if I wasn't clear with the question.

Like I said I have used it on other projects where there were alpha fields and numeric fields and it worked to mix them together
