# How to calculate median for categorical income variable

I have income variable with with breaks 1. Less than \$25000 2. \$25000 - \$39999 3. \$40000 - \$59999 5. \$60000 - \$79999 6.\$80000 - \$99999 7. >= \$100000. The raw data also coded same exact labeled information of income breaks not a numeric income. I need some help to figure out how to compute median income if possible could you please explain me is this something achievable in tableau if so kindly let me know the steps to get median income. I am really appreciate your help in advance.

Table illustration -

Less than \$25000 - 18%

\$25000 - \$39999  - 12%

\$40000 - \$59999 - 11%

\$60000 - \$79999 - 22%

\$80000 - \$99999 - 10%

>= \$100000  - 27%

How to compute Median income in tableau??

Thanks, Recky

Dear Shin, Thank you for your prompt replay. I really appreciate your time and effort. I'm really liked a lot the idea you built in tableau however i am getting approximate value of median. I am thinking attached median income if i want to apply same formulae to get median income is this possible? if possible, please give me some pointers or directions that would be really awesome. Once again thank you so much. Regards, Recky
