I like to use rank but first fix the sum of the favorite at the yr qrt level
then rank them
then filter I use hard coded 5 you could use a parameter
then the viz

Hey Jim - thx for the thorough instructions. I replicated your steps, but the rank filter didn't change the view (I can't open your workbook, but am still trying).
Here is my updated workbook following your instructions. I've been through it several times but can't ID what I'm missing. thanks.

Hey Jim - I got it to work. Thx so much. I missed a key step. I created the rank filter without creating the rank calc first.

that step is really important -
when you nest table calculations the one you create first is at the deepest level and affects all the levels above it
