Check the actions concept in a tableau
Bring the map sheet and Line sheet ( Showing from 1998 - 2018 for all countries ) into a dashboard.
1) Click on Dashboard menu on Top
2) Actions
3) Add Action --> Filter
4) Source Sheet --> Select Map
5) Target Sheet --> Select Line
6) Action on "Select"
7) When leaving the action Select "show all values"
8) Down you can find an option called selected fields or All Fields
9) Selected Fields --> A window will open --> Add state both in Source and Target --> Ok
10) Ok
Once you click on State your line chart will show that state trend
Hope this helps.

hi Mohamed,
So you want to set up an action from the map to the line chart (with City as the Dimension passed) ...and then choose the 'Exclude all values on deselection" option to get the pop-up effect
attached is a quick example

mohamed amer Feb 1, 2019 4:59 PM (in response to Simon Runc)Hi Simon , I tried to do exactly as you did , but every time i click on one point on the map , I get the whole line charts for all points on the map , I also get the attached warning when setting the source and target field
I guess this warning is because not all point on map has a line chart in the line charts sheet
Is that what causing the problem or was it some thing else ?

Also unlike your sheet named "time" I don't have the attached filter that was there in your sheet, I don't know what's wrong-

1 of 1 people found this helpfulhi Mohamed,
So looking at your two screen shots, it seems you don't have City in the Viz Level of Detail on the sheet (or sheets) that you are sending the action from. In my example, my Map Sheet has City in the Detail (this can be on the Colour, Size, Detail, Label tile). You need to have a dimension in the VizLoD of the source sheet in order to send it to the target sheet as an action filter.

mohamed amer Feb 2, 2019 1:14 PM (in response to Simon Runc)Simon Runc I figured out the problem , the problem is that I am selecting from "map" sheet a slice of a pie chart , and this slice's attribute is what should be the selected source that will be linked to the target
Is there anyway I can trigger a selection of attributealso when I click on a slice of a pie chart , what exactly Am I selecting ? this slice's name or the angle value of this slice ??
I am so confused about this

mohamed amer Feb 3, 2019 12:14 AM (in response to mohamed amer)Simon Runc Thanks Simon, I figured out that I was using the wrong field in the source
One last dump question, how did you make the map in the dashboard fit all the screen and "time" view only show up in the dashboard in case of selection
How did you control the size of the view dynamically ?

1 of 1 people found this helpfulNot a dumb question! (no such thing!!)
So you need to put both sheets in a container, and remove the title from the line chart. Tableau should automatically handle the sizing to make the map fill the whole container when the line chart isn't in view.
