# Month to Month Growth with the Help of multiple Calculated Field

Hi there,

I have a database with several keywords and their specific search volume per month. E.g. 40,000 people have searched for term "x" in January, while 100,000 in February, resulting in a 150% growth:

I know how to calculate the the MoM Growth, but I would like to make this calculation in specific calculated field for each month. E.g. I would like to have a calculated field "Feb 18 Growth". Could anyone please help me? Workbook is attached.

Kind regards and a healthy 2019,

Ralf

Hi Ralf,

Find my approach as reference below and stored in attached workbook version 10.5 located in the original thread.

1. D1. Month (Months)

2. D2. Month (Years)

3. D3. Convert Month

if [D1. Month (Months)]=1 then 'Jan'

elseif [D1. Month (Months)]=2 then 'Feb'

elseif [D1. Month (Months)]=3 then 'Mar'

elseif [D1. Month (Months)]=4 then 'Apr'

elseif [D1. Month (Months)]=5 then 'May'

elseif [D1. Month (Months)]=6 then 'Jun'

elseif [D1. Month (Months)]=7 then 'Jul'

elseif [D1. Month (Months)]=8 then 'Aug'

elseif [D1. Month (Months)]=9 then 'Sep'

elseif [D1. Month (Months)]=10 then 'Oct'

elseif [D1. Month (Months)]=11 then 'Nov'

elseif [D1. Month (Months)]=12 then 'Dec'

END

4. D4. Display: str([D3. Convert Month])+' '+str(mid(str([D2. Month (Years)]),3,2))+" Growth"

5. M1. Def in %: (ZN(SUM([Search Volume])) - LOOKUP(ZN(SUM([Search Volume])), -1)) / ABS(LOOKUP(ZN(SUM([Search Volume])), -1))

6. Drag the required objects to the indicated locations and Hide header of object Month

Hope it helps

Norbert

Hi Norbert,

thanks a lot! I could replicate your step-by-step guide and it is working. Unfortunately still not working for my specific use case. I need for each month a calculated field, e.g. "Jan 18 Growth", "Feb 18 Growth" etc. These calculated fields could e.g. used for scatter plots. Hope I could specify it a litte bit better? Again, thanks a lot for your approach!!

Kind regards,

Ralf

Hi Ralf,

You could define for each month a separate measure. But it will get a little "tedious" when you have "hundreds" of month. But for one year it means you have to define 12 measures

Norbert

Hi Norbert,

that sounds great, since we only have 12 months. Could you please give me a hint how to do this? I mean, an example for one month would me help to understand it

Kind regards and many many thanks,

Ralf

Hi Ralf,

Find attached workbook with the first two months to explain the principal. The other 10 months are based on exact same principle.

Hope it helps,
