    Analyzing Comma Separated Dimensions

    Nikunj Dani

Hi, I have a data set where a few dimensions are pulled in as a comma separated values. See below the example. Same data is attached in an Excel format as well. I'd like to do two things

      NoNameAgeClass Subscription(s)
      1John42A,B,C
      2Michael31B
      3Tracy45C
      4Melissa33B,C
      5Carrie41A,C
      6Sylvia43E
      7Nick39D,E
      8Tom35A,B,C,D
      9Debbie37C,D,E
      10Tim30A

      1. I'd like filter records using the "Class subscription(s)" field with a single value. Ex. If I select A from the drop-down value, I'd like to see John, Carrie, Tom and Tim.

      2. I'd like to summarize the # of entries by the class. See the example bar graph below..

Note, I have this type of data set in two variation. a. There are finite number (fixed) of values in a given dimensions.  & b. The values for the dimensions are not fixed. They change all the time so need a solution that will adjust dynamically by looking at the changing values. I doesn't matter if the solution is different for each scenario.

Can I do this without using Tableau Prep? I'd appreciate any tips. Thanks in advance.

      Thanks, Nick.
