# Creating a Metric that is an Average of a Calculated Field

Hi...

I am trying to get an 'Average' for the attached dashboard....the goal is to understand by year what my month to date average is for the '% Difference by Year'.  I am using Superstore data as an example.

So on the second line graph above, I'm interested in a reference line for both -13.59% and 67.12% for 2017 and 2018.  What is the calculation for the 'Totals' I have circled above? I know it is (45055-52144)/52144 but what does this look like as a measure (calculated field)?

What does this calculation look like? I thought it was a window_sum, but that wasn't working. See attached workbook using superstore data.

Thanks!

Jim....

I'm not getting the desired results with your calculated field. And your screenshot that you sent doesn't provide the results I am looking for. Your calculation gets me 8.53% and -1.97%, the goal is to arrive at -13.59% and 67.12%.  Can you send your workbook where you accomplished this?  Thank you! I am again attaching my workbook using the formula you suggest.  Again, the goal is to arrive at a MTD % Growth (YOY) in Sales.  So for 2017: (45055-52144)/52144 = -13.59%.
