Question - are the versions 10.2 and 10.5 - like the tag on your post
as of 10.5 you would be able to extract a workbook back to 10.2
follow the path and another window will open allowing you select the version

I know that this exists, but that is unfortunately not what I am talking about. I do not have nor cannot have 10.0.5. What I am asking is if I only have access to Tableau v10.0.2, can I take a v10.0.5 workbook and make it accessible on v10.0.2.
OK - so you are looking at 2 separate updates to Tableau version 10.0 - if that is the case they should be compatible
What is the message you got when you tried
The version of Tableau that is installed on my pc: 10.0.2.
The version of a workbook that is on the server I am trying to access: 10.0.5
The only way to downgrade a workbook that is running 10.0.5 is to have 10.0.5 installed on your machine and use the method that you have described above.
So if I only have Tableau v10.0.2 installed on my pc, I cannot downgrade a 10.0.5 workbook to 10.0.2?
Stuart - My 2 cents, if you're exactly referring to version compatibility between 10.0.2 and 10.0.5 then there shouldn't be any problem.
But if it's between 10.2 and 10.5 then there's a problem - if you're on Desktop 10.2 and the Server is on 10.5, the workbook you download would be on 10.5, and you won't be able to open it unless it is downgraded (by someone that has a Desktop 10.5) to 10.2. Also, you won't be able to downgrade a workbook if it has hyper extract as a data source.
Could you post a screenshot of your Tableau Desktop version? Click on Help > About Tableau.
Also, have you actually tried to open it?
So the answer is you can't. What is the point of having a downgrade feature if the user who needs a downgraded workbook cannot do it on their own?
Stuart- Usually Server and Desktop upgrades go in sync in a production environment. Without getting into why you can't upgrade your desktop to match with Server, I found this workaround see if this helps.
I unmarked your Answer as CORRECT, Because What I understood from Discussion is that , Server having Workbooks @ 10.5 and you have Desktop 10.2, So unless you have Hyper Extracts, You can Still Downgrade books. I even Downgrade 2018.3 to Lower Versions Unless it is Hyper Extract.
This may Help you:
Let me know if this was the ask, otherwise If I haven't understood correctly, then would mark your answer back as CORRECT.
