Tableau Grand Total Graphing

Hey Guys,

I have a data set that looks like this

Data Header | Number 1 | Number 2

Data 1           | 25             | 30

Data 2           | 20            | 25

Data 3           | 30            | 70

Data 4           | 10            | 80

Data 5           | 50            | 10

I then added a grand total using the analysis tab (average) so it looks like

Data Header | Number 1 | Number 2

Data 1           | 25             | 30

Data 2           | 20            | 25

Data 3           | 30            | 70

Data 4           | 10            | 80

Data 5           | 50            | 10

Grand Total   | 27            | 43

After, I hid all the data rows so it looks like

Data Header | Number 1 | Number 2

Grand Total   | 27            | 43

I want to plot a line graph with JUST the grand total. Is there a way I can do taht in Tableau? When I go to graph it, it shows an empty graph since its only graphing the hidden data, and since its hidden its blank.

Best,

Eugene

Hi Eugene,

Would you mind attaching a sample of your dataset? Maybe it would work if you use just the one calculation to find the average of the numbers, e.g.:

Try that?

Thanks,

Mavis

I attached a picture and just blocked out the names. Imagine what I have and then a grand total tableau field at the bottom.

Hi Eugene,

Maybe try something like:

avg{fixed Secret Hiding, Student First Name, Student Last Name, Pivot Field Names, Administration: avg(pivot field values)}

Thanks,

Mavis

Hey,

I get the right numbers but I still have no clue how to actually plot it. When I go to plot with the hidden data i still see a blank graph.

If I unhide the data it looks like this.

But I just want 3 bars, a 2016, 2017, and 2018 per subject and just the grand total number.

I think I did it! Fixed means I could remove it from the tabs at the top. And now i just plotted it! Thank you very much.
