Cleaning up my data so as to create a Map Viz with my data set

    Adeleke adefabi

I have this unstructured data set that has location coordinates(latitude and longitude) in the same column, with some other geographical data that has to do with the location ordinates.I converted the location coordinate to country/region so that tableau can recognize it as map coordinate and also a column in the data set UNSD grouping to region. But with all this cleaning and manipulation, I wasn't able to create a map viz with the data.

Want to create a map viz, that shows total number of death and missing by region.

Attached is the workbook that contains the data set.

          Hello Adeleke,

Please see attached (2018.2) workbook and below screenshots for changes made. SPLIT function works well with your problem.  If this answers your question please mark this response as correct. Thx, Don

After SPLIT function, set from string to Number (Decimal) for each:

          Set to appropriate geographic role:

          Set to their geographic roles:

          Convert from measure to dimension:

Rename to Lat or Lon as appropriate.

When Lat/Lon are placed on row/column you'll see only 1 point. See following to disaggregate the data:

Click Analysis and uncheck this box.

You'll now be able to drag dimensions to use size/color and fill out your map:
