Parameters are static, so it won't update with incoming data. It always holds whatever the "Current Value" is at the time of Parameter creation unless it is changed. Probably not the best answer you're looking for. However, if you're on 2018.2 you can take advantage of Tableau Extensions, especially dynamic parameters.
I was able to download it, but I am not sure how to install it. Do I need to place them somewhere? Do all these extensions are installed in the same way? Thank you so much

Silvana- Extensions are added to the dashboard, to the bottom left you should find Extensions under Objects,
Once you drop it on dashboard, you should see a popup with two options,
1) Extension Gallery takes you to the link I shared in my first response.
2) My Extensions takes you to the default folder where the extensions are supposed to be placed. Typically, Documents\My Tableau Repository\Extensions\someextension.trex
