In your first PNG for Tableau Prep Count I noticed that it is sampling; that is normal and expected behavior in Tableau Prep for data sets to save on memory and execution load. More information can be found here on how to adjust sampling sizes:

OMG... Don, I think that was it... Spent few hours on this...
What really threw me off, is that when I did some self-"Joins" it showed only 262K and some mismatched accounts. So it does Joins on sampled data only, until I do output?
That sounds correct. It speeds the workflow process, especially when dealing with large data sets and any mod's to the underlying data for corrections, joins, etc.
