# Filling in A Sequential Path with Color

Hi Folks

I'm going to try and keep this simple.

I have a random logo picture.  I plotted the X & Y axis that draws out the obvious triangle on this logo using a sequential path that I learned via this article: https://www.evolytics.com/blog/tableau-201-how-to-map-a-sequential-path/

I know you can change the color and size of the lines, but the goal here is trying to fill in the triangle with color.  How does one go about this?

If you want to plot some X & Ys in a blank workbook, see attached:

Thank you very much!!!

Hi Stephen,

I made a slight correction on position 1 for the y coordinate so it would match position 8 and 9.  Then it's just placing position on the path's shelf and changing it from a line to polygon.  See attached workbook version 10.5 as well as the corrected excel file.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,

Gerardo

And, if you wanted to fill the inside with black, you could add another triangle to your data set to define the inner triangle.

 Product Family Position X Y ALL 1 131 61.3 ALL 2 259 198 ALL 3 259 210 ALL 4 107 52 ALL 5 405 52 ALL 6 259 210 ALL 7 259 198 ALL 8 381 61.3 ALL 9 131 61.3 Inner 1 131 61.3 Inner 2 259 198 Inner 8 381 61.3 Inner 9 131 61.3

Then, after changing to a polygon, you could color based on the "Product Family" field.

Both solutions are great.  I didn't think about adding in the polygon... never even crossed my mind.  Ken, thanks for adding in the "Inner" portion, this was exactly was I was looking for.  Many thanks!
