Would the individual dashboards be different in layout? Or would they all have the same sheets, but filtered to the selected Sales Rep?
An action goes to one place, and it's uniformly handled for all the marks on the source sheet. But if all the sheets are the same on the various proposed dashboards, then why not have a single dashboard where all the sheets are filtered to the data for the selected Sales Rep?
You'll have to use Navigation key for each of the details then once you click on the key and it will redirect you on the deep dive summary.
I'll qualify my previous response. If your action were a hyperlink action, you could set it up so that each sale rep has a different dashboard. But that would involve the overhead of a URL action -- new tab and a new instance of the workbook. You would have individual dashboards published, so each would have its own URL.
Thanks for the response Joe.
The dashboards all live in a single workbook, overall sales tracking and individual performance. I thought about breaking them up, but that wouldn't be a good solution for this project. Just looking for a filter to appropriate dashboard based on field value. Might not be possible at this time but seems like it should be.
can you provide an example of what you are talking about? or point me to one?
Even though they are all in the same workbook and all get published together, they still each have their own URL. Navigate to a dashboard on server, and you will see the URL for that dashboard. Each one has a unique URL. So if you to a hyperlink action to that URL, tableau will go directly to that dashboard. Most typical browser setups will end up opening a new tab for that hyperlink URL. That's why I mentioned overhead in my previous reply. You could end up with 100 browser tabs open if you keep invoking action after action. But it's a way to get a data-value-driven action to a dashboard dedicated to a given data value.
