    Tableau versioning

    Holly Bond

I'm a little confused about Tableau Server versioning/naming. I was looking at a vulnerability and it listed the following vulnerable versions:

Vulnerable Versions:  The following versions have this vulnerability:

      Tableau Server: 9.2 through 9.2.23

      Tableau Server: 9.3 through 9.3.21

      Tableau Server: 10.0 through 10.0.17

      Tableau Server: 10.1 through 10.1.16

      Tableau Server: 10.2 through 10.2.12

      Tableau Server: 10.3 through 10.3.10

      Tableau Server: 10.4 through 10.4.6

Tableau Server on Windows: 10.5 through 10.5.3

Tableau Server on Linux: 10.5 through 10.5.3

      Tableau Server on Windows: 2018.1

      Tableau Server on Linux: 2018.1

Are there 3 different Tableau Server flavors - A Tableau Server, Tableau Server on Windows, and Tableau Server on Linux?

      Sorry for the rookie question.

          Hi Holly,

Sorry for the confusion.   For a long time Tableau Server was *only* available on Windows.   That changed starting with version 10.5 when we offered a solution that could run on either Windows or Linux.    Then to add a bit to the confusion, 10.5 was the last of our version numbers before we started to switch to the year format.  So we first released 2018.1 and 2018.2, currently 2018.3 is in Beta.

For at least the first 6 months after a major release we do a maintenance release.  So for example on initial release it was 10.5.0, the next month 10.5.1 and the following month 10.5.2, etc etc.

Thank you, Mark. That was helpful and just what I needed to know.
