    Can I use tabcmd from my local machine?

    Amit Jain

      Hi,

      I want to schedule a extract refresh for an embedded datasource. i read somewhere the Tableau command line utility will not work and tabcmd can work.

      Can I install the tabcmd on my local machine and then run to update extract and publish it online?

      Thanks,

      Amit

          Hi Amit,

          yeah you can install tabcmd online do the necessary admin tasks

          Check the below tabcmd list what you can do:

          tabcmd Commands

          If you are truly looking for scheduling tableau data extract refresh you can do it from Tableau Server itself check the below link for same

          Refresh Data on a Schedule

          hope this helps

            Hi Naveen,

            I tired but I am getting the following error.

            C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau Server\10.3\extras\Command Line Utility>tabcmd refreshextracts --datasource "Auto Refresh"

            ===== Continuing previous session

            =====     Server:   ****************

            =====     Username: *********

            =====     Site:     ******

              *** Not enough permissions

            User ******does not have 'view' permissions for default project ***(errorCode=1)

            My issue is that I have an embedded data source, for which i cannot schedule refresh on tableau server (by going online) as it is requires Windows Authentication. I have to daily refresh manually on my tableau desktop and then publish it. I read that with Tableau Command Line Utility I can schedule the same but then it is not working. I read somewhere that Tableau Command Line Utility will not work on Embedded Data Source. Can you please let me know on how can I schedule Refresh that Database?

            Tableau Server Version: 10.3.3 (10300.17.0915.2101) 64-bit Windows

            Thanks,

            Amit
