# Incident Rate

Hello I am trying to create a map that shows the incident rate of violent *** crimes per 10,000 in the population.  I work for the Criminal Justice Institute hence the topic.

First I created the calculated field of SUM([Rape]+[*** Offenses]+[Human Trafficking] ). Now I have a total of *** crimes for every reporting Indiana County.  I want to take (*** crimes/county population)*10,000 to give me the incident rate of *** crimes per 10,000 people.  Is there a formula I can use in calculated field to do this?  If not I have also have Tableau Prep is there a way to take the calculated field of *** crimes and perform that formula in there?

HI ,

You can try below logic:

(SUM( [Incident_1]+ [Incident_1]+ [Incident_1])/Sum([POPULATION]) ) *10,000

You can refer below link also

I tried creating the same calculated field as they had, which is below.  I just used 10,000 rather than 1,000 and it is as if my Census measure is zero.

1,000

Role: Continuous Measure Type: Calculated Field Status: Valid

Formula

(COUNTD([ID])/1000)

The domain for this field has not been loaded. Click "Load" to retrieve.

The one below is mine

(COUNTD([2015 Census Population])/10000)

This is what keeps happening the 10,000 category keeps coming up as all zeros.

HI,

Could you please share the data.

Do I send it to an email address and do you want a tableau file or excel file? Sorry about all the questions it is my first time with the forum.

I do not see any place where I could upload a document.  I also tried publishing the workbook to Tableau public and an error message keeps popping up.
