I am assuming you have selected the schema in the view? If you do not select a schema it will not populate a table list. I would also double check the same credentials being used in the connection from Tableau Desktop works as expected when logging via another tool or directly into the data source.
Additionally are any error messages presented whena attempting the connection? Please include any screenshots of the errors presented.

Just on the general topic of Exasol, it may be worth updating to Tableau Desktop version 2019.1.
In 2018.3 and earlier versions there was a known issue (ID #812492) with Exasol string fields getting truncated. This was fixed in version 2019.1...
