    Alteryx to Tableau

    henry watson

I am trying to change an Adobe image web script within an Alteryx workflow  so I can use it in Tableau but i keep getting error messages. (see screen shot below). Any ideas on what I can do? This is the first time im using Alteryx so I am a complete novice at it. If anyone can help I would be very grateful! Thanks!

          Some problems I can see:

          - the Filter tool isn't configured properly. Add a filter to reduce the number of records continuing in the stream

          - the Output tool isn't configured properly. Add a filename (possibly TDE/Hyper if you're using exclusively with Tableau), or write back to your database (depends on your config).

I'm happy answering Alteryx questions here, but you might want to try the forums on alteryx.com as well

Hi Chris, thanks for your response. Thanks, I will direct all future Alteryx questions on their forum next time.

On this query- I am a complete novice with regards to Alteryx. Is it possible for you to show me how to add a filter to reduce the number of records continuing to the stream?  And how can I add a the TDE/Hyper filename to the output? (And yes I am using exclusively with Tableau).

I would be grateful if you can show me how to do this exactly- so I know how to do it next time. Thanks for your help once again.

              Hi Henry,

If you click on the Filter tool click on it and from left pane select the appropriate field to filter your data:

Select Output Data tool from In/Out

Click - File - select location and from File Type - select .hyper or .tde - this will write the Tableau Extract file after your workflow.

              Hope this helps.

Hi Ankit, thanks for your help.  I am trying to select a file, but it is not giving me an option to do so (please see below).

I am able to configure the output settings to the Tableau Hyper Data Extract but an error message for the output still appears below.

Where am I going wrong please? Thanks for your help once again.

                  Hi Henry,

As you can see, you've got 3 errors and you can click on the tool name to go directly there, but it looks like ...

filter error - you haven't referenced a field in the filter (have you defined the filter properly ?)

Output data error - looks like you don't have permission to write to the folder.  The easy way that I use is to just type in the filename.hyper and Alteryx will automagically guess that you want a Tableau hyper file

Text to Columns - there's an error here as well, you probably want to review the tool and see what's wrong.

Hi Chris. For the filter error, are you able to show me how to properly define the filter?

For the Output data, I selected the Tableau Hyper Data Extract, yet it is still coming out as an error?

Would it help if I posted a link to my actual Workflow?

                    Thanks

You can attach the workflow, but basically the errors mean that the tools aren't configured properly.

If your workflow (or data) is confidential you can just post screenshots of the tool.

The filter tool needs to have a proper condition, so you have to have a field and a condition on that field

The output tool must have a filename & path that it can write to.

Hi, thanks Chris. The file is not confidential.

I understand that the filter tool needs to have a proper condition. However I am a complete novice at Alteryx- are you able to to show me how to give it a proper condition?

Also on the output tool, I have selected Tableau Hyper Data Extract, yet it is still coming out as an error? Is this not a filename and a path? If not are you again able to show me how?

                        Thanks for your help?

When you're replying, click "Advanced editor and add an attachment" in the top right of the reply area.  Then you can attach files.  Can you attach the JPG  and the YXMD file please ?

It sounds like you're trying to put some polygons on top of a JPG image. and the polygon data needs to come from the file that you posted before - is that right ?
