Tableau Server 10.5 - Error 1 connection refused from Desktop Client to Server through proxy

    Mark Sabin

      Hi

I am having a similar issue as described in this discussion: https://community.tableau.com/thread/158979 having upgraded from Server 9.2 to 10.5.

The issue I have though, is that if I connect to my Tableau Server (10.5), via the proxy, using Tableau desktop 9.2 (where the connection screen has the URL, AD Username and Password) - it works as you would expect and I connect to content on Tableau Server from my desktop.  However, when I try to connect a Tableau 10.* client to the same Tableau Server, I am getting the Error 1: Connection refused message.

When I look at the URL that gets returned with the message, it appears that the response is HTTP, whereas the request URL was HTTPS.

So, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on this - I'm concerned that I have missed some configuration int he upgrade, but then am confused as to why the older desktop version can access the server successfully.  Advice so far is that it must be configuration in the proxy which is causing the issue but nothing has changed here and desktop 9.2 connects successfully.  I am assured, ports haven't been changed in the upgrade of Server/Desktop and that it should be like for like.

      Old Set up (Pre-Upgrade):

Desktop 9.2 - connect via https://MyTableauServer through the proxy to Server 9.2 = successful

      New Set up (Post-Upgrade):

Desktop 10.* - connect via https://MyTableauServer through the proxy to Server 10.5 = failure (error message suggests url has been "re-written" or Tableau server has responded on http://)

Desktop 9.2 - connect via https://MyTableauServer through the proxy to Server 10.5 = successful
