The KB article referenced talks about the old (aka legacy) Jet connector limitations and not the default connector introduced in v8.3…here’s the documentation that talks about some of the differences
However this documentation is out of date, for example the default connection can now (as of 10.5) support non-equi-joins. Also it’s incomplete, I tried to find earlier versions of this document that talked about text field lengths, when the new connector came out I did some tests and it had no problem with fields with 10K characters, whereas the Jet connector is limited to 255 characters per field. (Display of those fields in a useful way was another issue!).

Thank you Jonathan. I am finding the size for the string field is pretty large as well. I just wanted to make sure I am not missing something. Thank you for your input.
