Active Directory: Username with '@' or longer than 20 chars

    aj.g

I'm using Active Directory for my Tableau user identity store. I understand that Tableau uses sAMAccountName and UPN and that if username is longer than 20 characters or has an '@' in their name, Tableau will read that username as a UPN.

Is there any way around this default feature? Let's say I have a user in my Active Directory with the name: "testusername@mycompany.com". In my Active Directory, this username is NOT a UPN. However, Tableau will try to parse this name as a UPN and will not be able to find a domain that matches the UPN suffix.

If my Active Directory supports this kind of username, surely there's a way to make Tableau add the user correctly? Is there some kind of config or character escaping I can do?
