I'm having crazy loading times. A simple workflow literally locks up my computer.
I have the same issue. I've done all the usual things: Reboots, Repairs, Uninstall and Reinstall - yet still get the same error regardless. My laptop is running Windows 10 with 8 GB RAM.
I just think Tableau Prep is still in infancy. These bugs are horrible.
Thank you for raising this issue George! Would you be able to share a copy of your log files so we can see what's happening? Below are the instructions for collecting and sending your log files if you're able to.
Where are the log files?
- Windows: C:\Users\<your username>\Documents\My Tableau Prep Repository\Logs
- Mac: /Users/<your username>/My Tableau Prep Repository/Logs
Steps to collect log files
- Clear out your logs: Go to your user directory and delete all files there.
- Recreate the issue: Open Tableau Prep and recreate the issue
- Close Tableau Prep
- Zip up all the new log files
- Attach the zip file and reply to this thread, or respond to me directly if you prefer
I'm suffering with the same issue.
I would add the log to the reply but there does appear to be some internal corporate information in the log that I don't think my company will be happy with me sharing on a forum.
Sorry i cant see how to send to you directly.
PS loving Tableau Prep version 2018.1.1 at the moment which works fine.
I have already opened case# 04015143.
Thanks for the quick reply David, I'll send you a direct message via email.
Sorry to hear about the issue. Would you be able to file a support case so we can follow up with a request for the log files and your machine specs? This will help us figure out what's happening so we can fix the issue or give you a workaround.

The error message "Tableau Prep stopped running because an underlying process stopped unexpectedly. If this problem continues, try reinstalling the product." when attempt to open Tableau Prep 2018.2.1, is caused by a known issue with ID 802306 currently under investigation.
Although "Bypass proxy server for local addresses" is enabled in Internet Options, Connections tab, LAN Settings, Tableau Prep 2018.2.1 is not able to connect to 127.0.0.1
As a workaround, add 127.0.0.1 as an exception in the Exception section in Internet Options, Connections tab, LAN Settings, Advanced.
There are no issues with Tableau Prep 2018.1.2 as it bypasses 127.0.0.1 when "Bypass proxy server for local addresses" is enabled.
Hope this help.
Unfortunately, we don't the option of modifying those options. It would take 6 months to a year before IT would even consider that. Just have to hope that an update will replace this "feature".
