Are you on a MAC or PC? We have had a couple users report this issue occurs on a MAC if the registration window was not filled out. Check for windows that may be hiding in the background and ensure to complete the registration prompts. After completing registration, you should be able to connect to the flat files.
I believe if you close out of Tableau Desktop and then re-launch it should go away. If needed you can try using "Command+W" or "Command+Q" to close out of the window or app and re-launch.

I have the same issue on Windows 7 with Tableau Prep 2018.2.2. The message is:
Unable to connect to the server "".
Doesn't seem to be the same issue with the registration window. Any other ideas?
