# Bar Graph changed to Line Graph changes the values to be incorrect

Columns: Year, Month, Day

Row: Percent Plan

When I add "percent plan" as a bar graph the percentages are correct (85-100% range)

When I change the type to a line, the percentages change to fall between 10-20% which is incorrect.

Percent plan is a calculation of:    (Running Sum (Daily Volume))/(Running Sum (Planned Volume)) *100

I read another discussion of the same problem, and it was solved by changing the dates to ATTR in the details shelf but this did not work in my case

HI Ashley

Could you please attach  sample data as twbx foramt.

Thanks,

Shin

Hi Ashley

I agree with Shin that attaching a TWBX workbook is needed to correctly identify the issue - but I noted that you are using Running sum in your calculation - that is a table calculation

did you check to assure that the calculation of each field is based on date?

Attached is an example with made up data, so the numbers may be weird. I mimicked the percent plan calculation in the example data and it is being strange for other reasons now too- showing 200% when clearly the actual (blue bar) vs. planned (gray bar) is not 200%.

What I am looking for is a line graph that shows the percent of volume that has been met. (mailed/plan*100)

Good morning Ashley

( RUNNING_SUM(SUM([Mailed]))/RUNNING_SUM(SUM([Estimated (example tableau data)].[Plan])) )*100

I think you wanted

( (SUM([Mailed]))/RUNNING_SUM(SUM([Estimated (example tableau data)].[Plan])) )*100

No the running sum part is correct, the problem is when you change the bar graph to a line graph, the percentages change also.

Just Sum:

Running Sum is the correct calculation

But then changing to a line graph changes the values of the percentage

I have tried editing the table calculation of the percent calculation to Date and other options in the list which did not work.

When I click on a date in the graph and open up the data window, it appears the running total of the daily plan is incorrect for the specified date-- but only when using the line graph. I tried to change the daily plan table calculation between table, pane, and date and even this did not change the values. It seems nothing will change the line graph values.

Hello Ashley,

Did you get a resolution to the issue? I have the same exact problem. In my case, I am using a measure from a different datasource and formula looks like this  (SUM([Opportunity Model].[Opty Count]))/SUM([Lead Count])*100

The moment i change my graph from bar to line it magically changes values.

This is something that I haven't seen before. I am using 2018.1.4 version TD. Let me know if you found the resolution for this issue.

I'm not sure about "why" this is happening, but I was having the same issue today. I found out that if I changed my date to "continuous" instead of "discrete" then the line graph values remained the same. This wasn't ideal for what I was working on, but it'll do for now. Hope this helps.
