Hi there. We have a few dashboards connected to our internal JIRA database on-premise. The underlying connection is Postgres, and I think we worked with our JIRA admins to get the necessary credentials and structure of the tables to tap.
Thanks for the info, it's a place to start for us. Are you able to share/provide a sample of the types of dashboards you are using and the type of data driving it? We've recently used a Jira plugin, however we found
the data was not accurate, and was difficult to create a usable report.
Does using Postgres require a license and or subscription? Sorry, I'm not an IT person by background

First, you need to find out you JIRA installation is Cloud-based OR on- premise.
If Cloud-based - then you need to create a web data connector.
On-premise - Then you can use post-gre database. As mentioned earlier. But you have to explore tables and views in the database. It is to find out which table and view hold the required data you need.
We were having cloud-based installation and we were not having time to build web data connector. So we created a query in JIRA web and download the excel. Then we keep excel file in the shared location to be accessed by tableau. Since we need to update the dashboard weekly we are fine this manual work.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any question.
If your JIRA service is cloud-based, you can use the following Atlassian-verified web connector at this link:
It will allow you to use a web based data connection to your JIRA data using an authentication token
Thanks to all so-far that have provided valuable information. I will contact our Jira administrators and share the information with them. If any questions come up I will ask the community.
This has been very helpful to us!
I just learned we have the all-in-one Tableau Connector, and have allowed access. Now I have to figure out the rest.

The ability to connect to a JIRA data source is not yet built into Tableau Desktop,
There have been some workaround methods developed by the Tableau Community which should provide alternate means for connecting to JIRA:
Connect to JIRA using a Web Data Connector.
I also recommend to vote the Community idea below. The more votes, the better chances we have to see it implemented.
Hope this help
