FYI my experience has been that crosstab downloads or exports can start failing at around 100K rows, though I have successfully downloaded upwards of 500K rows. It seems to be some combination of # of rows x # of columns x field sizes of columns that dictates how much Tableau will export.
Personally I’ve taken this as a sign that Tableau Server is not an ETL tool so I find workarounds.

We are on 10.4 at the moment, but upgrading to 2018.1.1 is on the agenda for the next couple weeks.
I will open a support ticket if it still does not work on 2018.1.1
Interesting, yes this is just a temp solution anyways but it would be nice if it would work.
One other idea… instead of using Tableau’s buttons for downloading try using the direct URL by appending .csv to the view name, as in:
My memory is that I was able to pull down larger CSV’s that way than through the interface.
I have tried that before but I get a 502

Upgrade to 2018.1.2 fixed this for us.
