Connecting Tableau to Azure SQL Server.

    David Jerome

      Hi all,

I am running Tableau Desktop Professional Edition (10.3.3) and trying to connect to a SQL server on Microsoft Azure.

I have tried to connect in SSMS and using Qlikcloud, both of which have been successful.

When I connect using Tableau I am presented with two errors:

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_ENV failed

Unable to connect to the server "XXXXXXXX.database.windows.net". Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.

The first error appears to imply a driver issue and the official tableau guide (https://kb.tableau.com/articles/issue/error-driver-s-sqlallochandle-on-sql-handle-env-failed) states that no connector should be needed after 9.0.3. Having tried to download anyway I was informed that the connector cannot be installed as I have a newer version on the system.

Has anybody had this error and if so - any advice on how to resolve would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks

      Dave
