pavan kumar May 30, 2018 1:20 AM (in response to Haan Haan)Hi,
I think you can achieve that by having the appropriate field which captures the changes. Just like any database.

1 of 1 people found this helpfulHi Haan,
1) Place the excel file in shared path
2) The run as user should have access to that folder
a) In windows how to setup , Click ok the folder
b) Properties
c) security
d) Click on Edit
e) Provide the runas username
f) check names
g) Click ok
h) Select the runas user name in group or username section and provide the full control in “permissions for authenticated users”
i) click Apply
j) Click ok
3) Now connect to your excel , create your report and publish the workbook to server while publishing “Uncheck include external files”
4) Automotically your extraxts will get succeded
Let me if any issues

Run as User account means the account which used to installed the tableau server no need to create a separate run as User. Already there would be one just check with tableau admin team you will get that.

Haan Haan Jun 4, 2018 12:57 AM (in response to Haan Haan)Dear Naveen
I am able to carry out the refresh. However, i noticed that the server only recognize the particular file name...if i add in other file into the folder, the refresh cannot be done...
May I know is it possible to update tableau server when new file is in? -

1 of 1 people found this helpfulDear Haan,
Whenever you are connecting to the local file to tableau desktop and replacing the file with new one ,in such conditions we should consider is
1) Name of the File Should be Same
2) Columns Naming should be Same
3) Column Datatypes should be sameOverall your schema should be same as old file,
If you are looking for dynamic thing, then use any 3rd party applications make sure the format and name should be same as old file and Schedule the extract in the Server based on the file availability
