Where did you upgrade from? And does this happen to be a replicated datasource using a tabcmd get / publish? Have you tried downloading and republishing?
I did upgrade from 10.5, The data sources have been published using 10.5 version.
When I click on "+ New workbook" I am only able to see the published data sources in the site which are giving me the error when trying to connect.
In tableau 2018.1 Demo I saw in the video that we should get the below screen instead of what I am getting:
Our server is core based licensed, I am not sure if that has to do with it.
Also, I am not able to see these access roles at all: Site Admin Creator, Creator, Site admin Explorer, Explorer(can publish)
I highly doubt that core based license has anything to do with your error, and I don't know yet about the new security roles. But can you try to manually download one of the datasources to Tableau Desktop 2018.1 and then republish it and see if the problem persists? Or open a support case.

Hi Adam. Just a straight upgrade from 10.x to 2108.1 will not show the new licence types unless you choose to then buy additional instances of said licences. Please see this thread for more info on what some of us have been able to understand so far Just when I was sorta-kinda understanding the new permissions of 2018.1 I read this...
Donna & Jeff,
If my understanding is correct, since we have core-based licensing in our Env. None of the users including server admins should be able to connect to a published data source and develop a new report.
And that explains the error I am getting.
Is that correct?
