# generate a power trendline from observed data

in the attached spreadsheet i have 3 known columns {month, x, y} from which 6 values are known and 6 values yet to come

i want to predict the last 6 values from the first 6 using a power trendline.

the 2 computed values {c, b} are generated from the Excel LINEST function

and a final column where i apply the generated power trendline using the formula: y = cx^b

how might i do this in Tableau?

Hello William,

This is difficult in Tableau.

By using the calculations described in How to Calculate a Linear Regression Line in Tableau (This is a GREAT tutorial!),

the calculation of b and c are possible.

The problem is that, the calculation of b and c is based on x range 2-6, while the prediction is necessary for the full set of x.

This is as far as I can go.

Let's wait for jump-ins.

Regards

Lei
