The REST API does not have any methods for gathering usage statistics from content on Tableau Server. You'll need to talk to Tableau Server's postreSQL repository database for that information. I'm a big fan of using a visualization in Tableau to define the criteria for what content I want to perform some automated task on, then programmatically retrieving the list by simply doing a GET on the viz with a ?:format=csv on the end of the URI. It allows for a lot of visibility and flexibility that hard-coding a SQL query into a Python script would.
