What I did in there:
I created sheet 2. And I applied the A/C filter from Sheet 1 to Sheet 2. It's just a little dummy sheet, really. All I am really aiming for is what I want to put in the title.
Sheet 2(2) is a copy of Sheet 2. Here I unchecked "Show Header" of the A/C Type pill to hide that.
Copy 3 is formatted to grab your color, remove borders and hide the actual sheet data with sizes and colors.
I floated this last sheet in the corner where you want to see the special info on a dashboard.
This was pretty much exactly the line of thinking I was going down as I couldn't find any other way to approach this as Tableau doesn't seem to have the features (yet?).
It seems a pretty crude way of doing it and looks as though it will need a lot of tweaking of various settings in order to get it to resize and respond should I be dynamically filtering data which may resize the columns etc. Fortunately, my requirement at the moment is to produce static PDFs from this specific dashboard so I should be ok.

You are making the assumption that the space where we floated the extra sheet is some special cell where you can insert things.
Tableau provides the TITLE space for that. Tableau isn't designed to use that space the way you want to use it, so of course it's going to take something crude to create an appearance Tableau isn't concerned about doing.
I don't expect to see this as a feature. But let me suggest this: There is an IDEAS forum where people post suggestions and wishlist items. It's here:
Search in there to see if it already suggested. If so, you can add a vote to the existing thread. If it's not, start a thread for it. (The area you are looking to insert something is called the corner.)
