I looking for a way to get the format of the date selection to change based on the type of filter the user selects in Tableau Reader.

If the user selects months the format I want it to changes to the months and if the user selects years the format then changes to years.

I currently have it set up with a "Select Date Format" filter that will change the format, but the only thing that I don't like about this is if the user forgets to change it.

This is the graph layout I am using to display the data.

Is there a way to have the format change based on the date filter they select without having to have a "Select Date Format" filter?
