    Connecting to remote data sources

    Tim Smith

I can connect to a text file on my local machine C:\Example\data.tsv. I can connect to a text file on a network server with a UNC: \\Example\SharedC\data.tsv. But if I want to connect to a text file via a URL, I have to create a webpage that uses javascript to get the "webpage" and convert the data to a special table in memory so Tableau can suddenly understand and import it. What is so special about http://www.example.com/data.tsv that makes Tableau drool and drag its knuckles?

I am aware of Web Data Connectors. Are there any real solutions for getting data from php, C# Razor, or perl?
