Hi Thomas. Are you trying to a tabadmin restore? If so, are you using --no-config, try this and see if it works? Also, do you happen to know within the backup, what the authentication method was?
Hi Jeff. I am attempting a tsm maintenance restore. The backup was made with a Tableau Server configured for local authent.
oh yeah. Thanks for the reminder that Linux uses tsm. And when I look at the tsm info tsm maintenance , it looks like there isn't a --no-config option, but rather auth methods need to match. So I don't know why you're getting an error message if you say they're matching. You may need to open a support case.
Thank you for the input. After review by the support team, it stemmed from a permission problem on the backup file.
So, if you move the backup from somewhere else into the /var/opt/tableau/tableau_server/data/tabsvc/files/backups/ directory,
make sure the owner of the file is tsmagent in the tableau group, and the execution permission is on.
I am currently restoring 9.2 windows backup to a fresh install of 10.5 Linux. I also got the following error:
4% - Comparing authentication methods failed.
9% - Deleting temporary backup file.
14% - Cleaning up restore data on all nodes.
19% - Uninstalling restore services.
I changed the ownership and permission on the back up file but I am still getting same error.
Any idea what else could be wrong?
Is there a way to restore TSBAK file which has different authentication than the Tableau 2018.2 server?
Yes, you can restore without config settings
tabadmin restore --no-config <filename>.tsbak
I was referring to Tableau 2018.2 server which uses TSM.
