Unable to connect to the ODBC Data Source - MacOS 10.13.2 --> MSSQL Server 2016

    Anthony Byrne

I'm trying to connect to a MSSQL 2016 db from Tableau Desktop 10.5, the connection to the server is made and I end up on the "data connections" screen in Tableau with the "select database" field blank (even if I specify the database on the connection details).

If I expand the database dropdown list, the database name I want to connect to is shown.

As soon as I attempt to connect to the database I get the below error:

      • Unable to connect to the ODBC Data Source. Check that the necessary drivers are installed and that the connection properties are valid.
      • [Simba][SqlServerODBC] (15) Failed to connect to the SQL Server instance: []: Changed database context to '<NameOfDB>'.

Is this related to it being MSSQL Server 2016 DB? The Simba website seemed to indicate the driver had only been tested up to SQL Server 2014....

Any help would be greatly appreciated  - thanks!
