    Tableau Server Mssql Connection Error

    Sedat Kestepe

      Hello,

We have started using Tableau recently.

One of our users have published one workbook to Tableau Server (Linux 10.5). We had a connection error when running that workbook on server. The exception on Web UI is:

The drivers necessary to connect to the database server '9.1.1.191' are not properly installed on Tableau Server.  Visit http://www.tableau.com/drivers to download driver setup files.

The drivers required to connect to the data source are not installed.

Unable to connect to the server "9.1.1.191". Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.

Then we realised that server does not contain MSSQL driver. Although we installed mssql driver with yum install msodbcsql the result was the same. We also tried running

      tsm stop

      tsm pending-changes apply

      tsm start

      but couldn't connect.

What we see on log files nativeapi_vizqlserver[date-time].txt is almost the same error:

Exception thrown in CCategoricalFilterEdit_Filter::GetDomain - The drivers necessary to connect to the database server '9.1.1.191' are not properly installed on Tableau Server.  Visit http://www.tableau.com/drivers to download driver setup files.

The drivers required to connect to the data source are not installed.

Unable to properly calculate the domain for the field 'new_giristarihi'. Displayed data may be incorrect

      Any comment appreciated.

I can add more information if you need.

PS: Links for drivers on documents related to Tableau Server may redirect to desktop version of Driver Download page and nothing for Linux is found so this may need to be fixed.
