4 Million records is not a huge data. It's relatively small.
Make extract first, it will be a big help.

it's not a huge data set. but for Improvement of dashboard:
1. Use extract instead of live connection
2. Hide all unused field from view
3. remove unused calculated field
4. Use only column which will help you to get your insights if it's possible.
5. Use query to fetch data from vertica data source

Thank you for the answer. We have standard workbooks and data sources which we publish. So, making it extract is not an option we have.

As I mentioned, we are using standard workbooks for publishing, so changing the columns, hiding them etc cannot be done.
