Where are you hitting the refresh icon? Is this in your workbook in Tableau Desktop? Did you refresh the source or the extract? If you're using an extract, then, in your dashboard, you'll want to select "Data" and then "Refresh All Extracts".
I am using Tableau public, not Tableau Desktop. The data source window where we perform our joins, on the top left pon that window is the refresh button.
I'm having the same problem. I ended up renaming my Excel file then linking to that file. Nothing broke since all of the fields were the same. I don't think I would be so lucky with a more complicated Tableau file. As I understand it, Tableau should be able to refresh when I change the data in my Excel, but it's clearly not working as it should.
Use the refresh button by clicking on the data source name above the Dimension pane.. Dashboards get refreshed !
Hi, I am using Tableau Public Desktop. I have created a few Worsheets and saved onto the Tableau Public server the workbook. Now, i changed a few data on the excel sheet connected to the tableau. I click the refresh button, or the Data Refresh Data Source, but the changes of the data are not at reflected on the Tableau data source or on any tableau sheet i have created. Could you please explain in more details how you manage to solve this issue? Thanks a lot from Asunción Paraguay.
Same problem here. The "Tableau Publc" Desktop does not have an Edit data source > Extract > Refresh option, that is available in "Tableau Desktop" to allow you to refresh from the original file.
Refresh does not work as that refreshes from the internal extract copy, not the source file.
What is the intended method of refreshing from the source file from within the "Tableau Public" Desktop?
I have just found my own anwser via u/TableauThrowaway on Reddit.
In Tableau Public 2018.2.0 this very strangely will not work whatever you do on the Data Source tab. However on a worksheet (At least in MacOS) if you right click on the datasource name in a worksheet that is using the data source and hit the Refresh option of the right click menu then it will reload the data and you will be able to see the new set of rows within the Data Source tab,
