I believe this pattern changes upon upgrading to Hyper, but I haven't quite tried 10.5 yet .
But in any case, I have noticed the same as you with 10.3. And I can think of the following reasons, there may be more...
1. Within task manager, add the command line column. It will show that there is one tdeserver64 process that is standalone, and then there are additional ones that are either correlated to # of vizportal or # of vizqlservers that you have allocated.
2. For standalone backgrounder nodes, if there is not an allocated tdeserver64 process, then it will be spawned so that the extract can be created.

However interestingly there is no log path defined for the standalone process and it is only defined for the spawned processes as I see below :
However, I was wondering what was those numbers when you hover over the green status boxes.
It looks like a server : Port combination is that correct ?
