Additional question: Is it possible to suppress the embed=y parameter when loading an embedded dashboard?
I was able to reproduce this issue internally - comments does not show on the toolbar when I embed views. I tried a few potential parameters, but nothing stuck. I'm also not seeing anything in our documentation to suggest this feature isn't available when embedding. I'd open up a case with Support so they can engage Development to get an official answer.
If you try to remove embed=y when embedding a dashboard, what you'd end up with is the entire Tableau Server interface, instead of the view you are trying to embed.
Resolution after talking to Tableau Support, including a webex session looking at our server & hosting settings:
"...confirmed that it is not possible to launch in a iFrame a non-embedded view due to our security settings in Apache. Since the only way to show the comments at the moment is through the non-embed view you will not be able to see those in an iFrame."
It's a bit of a shame that comments aren't available in embedded view. There doesn't seem to be a particular reason for this restriction.
Alex, Thank you for posting your update on Comment feature availability on iframe using shareurl, directly from Tableau Support
Will this become an option in the future? We want to use commenting to post solutions for issues, but we are also using the embedded views to present the data
