Working with live connections slow - create temporary extract?

    Dan Hong

So, I have a Tableau workbook that connects via live connections to data extracts on Tableau Server, which is great because these extracts are updated nightly. However, whenever I change a filter on a dashboard while working in Tableau Desktop, it takes some time to refresh the dashboard because I guess it has to reconnect to the original datasource on Tableau Server.

Is there a way to speed up performance by creating temporary extracts but keep the live connections to the data extracts when I publish the workbook views to Tableau Server?
