Version of Tableau would be very helpful along with any other details, please.
10.4. I have a measure that I have grouped the values into two categories. From their I did an "If" calculation to pull in the value for that grouped field. I used that "If" calc to use as a percentage of the total. No issues with the calc but when I put it into the worksheet to use I get the above error.
I also am getting it and its more that just a small annoyance, I have a work around but it mult step and a bit time consuming.

I have a data connection with two different data sources, both MS Access. One table from one source, one table from the other source. Left Join on zipcode column. When I try to refresh the extract I get that message.
I am on Tableau version 10.3.2
What is the work-around? Explaining it can help others in the same situation.
@Brian McCully What is your workaround? I am experiencing the problem now.
I have to create another extract and then use the “Replace Date Source……”
So I will end up with “My Data 1”, “My Data 2” ect ect ect………
And because I am modifying the data quite a bit, I am having to do this often…..painful…
Hello,This error typically seems to be caused by a change in the database that occurred after the initial extract was created.
Connect to the data source live and recreate the extract.
I would agree except that I am using tableau as a GIS mapping program that employs LOD's and grouping of zip codes with thousands if values and multiple groups (30 +)...both of which can not be utilized with an MS access database...

For the record, we've now published a knowledge base article that documents this error message. Cristina's solution is correct. Please see:
Thank you Dave,
But my error was not from a change in the data structure, just the data itself, which is usually why the refresh is executed, and why it is so irritating.
Also, because I use “Groups” this complicates and compounds the issue as if there are too many elements in the group, you can not to back to “Live”; It will continually give the message that the sql is to complex. So for me, I have to create a secondary data source and then do a “replace Data Source” switch.
