Hi Steve Clair,
My apologies, I could have misunderstood you, but, what do you mean by "Selection via backspace"?
When searching for a month, you can of course type J and get all the months starting with J. Depending on the filter type, you could select one using TAB, not backspace.
Thanks for your understanding.
I'm sorry to say that this is not a feature.
However if you are really interested into it, please submit an idea to our developers. They would be more than happy to have a look at your suggestion.
Please take a look of attached workbook.
You can search month by typing the name via Enter key.
For Example Type J and press enter key it will apply filter of Jan, Jun and July months.

That's correct, but you need to change the type of filter.
It's a great workaround if Steve is ok changing his filter.
Thanks for the added value Irfan!
Irfam's work around is close to what I would do except his workaround breaks if you search for A (it returns all months with A in it). With some user training (not always possible or accepted) you can have them enter the month starting letter followed by a wildcard eg. A* in the filter to return the proper values.
