If you are using 10.2 or newer, you can use conditional format.
But I am not sure that absolutely help you case or not.
If you can attach packaged workbook, support/judge becomes easier.
Thanks Shin. Yeah in looking at your article it allows for multiple legends which is cool but from what I saw it didn't allow for multiple formatting options.
I'm attaching an example of demo data for a workbook looking to do the same thing changing the sales metric to having a $ and commas, as well as making the others with commas, eventually I'll have a percentage metric as well all on the same value ex. being MTD for now.
Hope that helps. I've been trying custom string functions with some luck but not the full thing yet.

This is quite a bit troublesome, but with your own customization, you can get required results.
Although, if table structure changes, you need to re-consider the way to achieve. No easy answer, case-by case customization is needed.
Create each different fields for different format.
If condition does not meet, it's null and no impact to the Viz.
For Metric, you can differentiate the fields to change the format.
Then, for MTD and MTD Var, I used Union to duplicate the data.
Again these are very complicated to be done with Tableau.
I don't have any good idea to alternate this view though.
