# Help with table calc please

Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to find the difference between hours by serial number and date, and then average that so I can have an average interval. The table calcs that I'm trying aren't working. thoughts?

Thanks!

Jill

Your workbook or a sample would help - Packaged workbooks: when, why, how

here you go! sorry.

Will you be reporting on this at row level like you have the report setup now, or will you be rolling up the average to the serial number or even higher?

I'm not sure I quite understand your requirement here. What are you trying to calculate? you say difference between hours by serial number and date but your [Invoice Date] only goes to precision in 'days'. or is [Meter Reading] in hours?

It looks like you are trying to calculate a difference in meter reading with your current table calc, and it is working as designed, I just don't think it is doing what you want. The table calc is calculating along [Invoice Date], so if we put this first in the view, so the view is sorting how the table calc is working, we get:

without digging further I am not exactly sure what is causing the nulls in the table calc.

Assuming this is not what you are after can you go in to a little more detail on what you are trying to calculate, and maybe some expected results?

Hi,

I assumed that you wanted just the average interval for SN in your table on Sheet3. I modified the sheet and added some table calcs using lookup and window average to get the average interval for each SN. I believe that the nulls are coming from the lookup function since it is looking for a row "-1" which is not available on the partition. See below. I attached a modified workbook with an added sheet which may be what you are looking for. Used the index function to filter and clean up the view.
